Is it possible, as a child, to grow up to be taller?
Im 13, and Im tall, about 5 ’7. But most people in my family have grown early, and most are average sized. Im an athlete, but I know how important it is to be big to be successful in sports. Chances are I’ll be 5 ’10, 5 ’11, maybe 6 foot. But in my sport, baseball, the best players mostly taller than that, or at least it couldn’t hurt to be taller.
I know I’m going to grow up to be average size, at least. But I’d love to be 6 ’1 someday. Im very active, and my diet is so-so. My dad is a 5 ’10, 5 ’11, my mom is 5 ’7, my sister is 5 ’7, and my brother somehow shot up to almost 6 ’3.
I’ve heard rumors of how to get taller, but I want to do it naturally, such as, a better diet, or specific exercises throughout my growing years. I’ve heard that stretching releases human growth hormones, so could that help me grow? I do yoga and poladies both once a week. Should I do more? What else can I do?

So many misconceptions! Let’s take a look at the latest clinical evidence.
There are several nutritional tips and techniques to maximize height up until our bones quit growing around age 20. Here are the most important tips, followed by supporting clinical evidence.
1) Take a daily multivitamin with micronutrients. See below for recommended micronutrients to improve height.
2) Take 1000mg (1g) of calcium carbonate supplement daily.
3) Take 3g of GABA (an inexpensive amino acid supplement) at least once daily to quadruple baseline growth hormone levels.
4) Engage in regular low-risk vibrational physical activity, such as plyometric training, volleyball, basketball, short-to-medium range jogging.
5) Practice meditation for 20-30 minutes regularly around dusk in order to reduce stress and improve hormonal profile for growth (cortisol can inhibit growth).

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15755856 – We conclude that calcium carbonate supplementation of adolescent boys increased skeletal growth, resulting in greater stature and bone mineral acquisition.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16426962 – The micronutrient-fortified beverage was beneficial in promoting growth and decreasing duration of common illnesses among middle-class residential schoolchildren who had adequate energy and protein intakes.

it’s all in your DNA/GENES
The only thing you can do to help along what you were genetically given is make sure that you are eating enough to sustain growth. Your genetics really play the biggest part, so there isn’t a lot you can do to become taller than genetics allow, but if you don’t treat your body well, you can stunt your growth so it is possible you wouldn’t reach your full potential. To make sure you get as tall as genetics will allow you must eat a balanced diet and make sure you are getting enough calories every day. How many calories you should eat depends on how active you are, your age, and how tall you are. I suggest you see a doctor or nutritionist to find out your specific needs if it is that important to you.
However, this is just an aside, it is very hard to make it big in sports so I suggest no matter what you do, have a backup plan and stay in school, which includes college if possible. Good luck!
